Pinky Dinky Doo has definitely brought the fun back into the ordinary reading. Our country has many children of young age who are struggling with literacy. The world that we know now is very technical that once these children get to class and have to open up a book, they don’t know what to think or how to feel. I don’t see this as an excuse to not teach them the correct fundamentals but we have to remember what type of world we live in and how to move with it. Pinky Dinky Doo puts the excitement and imagination back in to writing and reading through story telling that has animated pictures and sounds. This program can enhance my children’s cognitive and social abilities by using complete team work. The children can sit at the computer while trying to figure out what phrase should come next that makes the most sense. They will have to work together and come up with the next phrase together. This also helps their cognitive development because they have to think about what makes the most sense in the earlier part of the sentence. A developmentally appropriate use for using technology is to expand the children’s thought process. To make their words come alive before their eyes. An advantage of this website is to see their visions laid out on screen from an animated concept. The disadvantage from this website is if I do this in a group the children may not be able to compromise on one idea. I will definitely need to consider the time of the day to have them play this game on the computer. This helps with classroom management because I am sure that children will all want to join in and have a turn. We could also play this game off of the computer by writing them down on note cards with pictures attached to do as a board activity too.
Peaches,
ReplyDeleteBeing able to incorporate a game for all of the children to utilize and benefit from in a classroom is often a challenge. In most public schools here in Cumberland County each classroom has a SMART Board which allows you to view the computer through a projector on a large screen where the children can actually manipulate it. I think that this is the easiest way to integrate technology into the classroom. You can do it together as a class or even allow the older children to use it in a small group when they have become familiar with the hardware.
Peaches, so many people seem to have never had the love for reading. It's sad. We have to find ways to make it more exciting for our children. I took my youngest son(mildly autistic and mild MR)to the library yesterday. I was trying to get him interested in the books enough to pick out something for us to read together. He kept wanting to leave, so I picked out a variety and we left. He has only started to read a few words in school, but he refuses to read for me. I read a story to him, putting a lot of excitement and animation in it and he really enjoyed it. He likes me to read to him. Pinky Dinky Doo might be something I should get for him. Thank you for your very informative post!
ReplyDeleteCarrie, that would be a great idea. I wish I could incorporate that into my classroom! Mrs. Keesse has given me the idea to try and get internet into my classroom..So I will be taking baby steps on that one!
ReplyDeleteToni, you should let him play some of the web tool games that Mrs. Keesse provided for us to evaluate. I think he would enjoy it!
