Spreadsheets

As I have said before in my other blogs, I truly feel like spreadsheets and databases are too similar for me to explain to my group of preschoolers the difference. I just really try to stick to basic bar graphs. But a database shows comparison to things over time because you want to keep track on something as you go along. I chose for my database to do it daily on whether which one was more popular for that day but on my spreadsheet we will just choose which is our favorite over all. The children will only be able to pick one nursery rhyme to be their favorite. This will fit in the the NETS as creativity and innovation, communication and collaboration, as well as critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making.

  1. I think they are a lot alike too. I think that bar graphs are the easiest to look at. I chose recycling as my unit topic and now that I am seeing all that we have to do I wish I would have chosen something else, something with a little more to work. I chose it because it was interesting to me. I guess everyone else was smart because I am the only one who chose it. Nursery rhymes are fun!!

  2. Carrie, that is true that with recycling it can be alot of science and math. I am a preschool teacher so I felt nursery rhymes closely related to my kids. Coming up with spread sheet ideas for it was kind of hard.

  3. Carrie:
I included recycling because I thought there was so much stuff out there for the subject. Earth Day is coming up soon. I bet there's quite a bit for students to sink their teeth into there. You could have them read books about recycling. I remember reading one with the Berenstein Bears. You could have students write a poem about recycling. What about a dance they could do imitating picking up trash and putting it in the trash can? Think outside the box.

  4. Mrs. Keesee,
I think that is a great idea for Carrie. I'm not sure which age group Carrie has but I know that with my preschoolers I have to make everything a movement!!!
